Dispersed by Armed Bandits: Haitian Pastor Launches Lay Bible School in Refugee Community

After residents of his city were dispersed by armed bandits, Pastor Prospère Lemaître (RHEMA Haiti charter class graduate) refused to be a victim. In January of 2024 he launched a lay ministry school with 180 students in the commune of Verrettes where he and many others had taken refuge. Pastor Lemaître reports, “There are many testimonies of miracles“ coming from the ministry. The entire teaching staff is comprised of fellow RHEMA Haiti graduates who are retransmitting the truths they received to faithful men and women who are apt to teach others (2 Tim. 2:2). He credits their success to the ministerial training you (our ministry partners) provided saying, “Every day I thank God for RHEMA Haiti!”

Now those who were scattered after the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word ...
— Acts‬ ‭11‬:‭19‬ ‭

Pastor Lemaître embodies a bold spirit of faith! While a student at RHEMA Haiti in 2012, he was struck with a high fever and became extremely weak. Hungry for the Word and not wanting to miss class, he begged for permission to place a mat near the instructor’s platform. Shaking and sweating profusely, he lay listening to the Word. The student body was invited to stand, stretch forth their hands and pray for him. The power or God manifest, the fever broke and he instantly rose up well through faith in the mighty Name of Jesus!

On January 26, 2024, 180 students enrolled for the launch of a new lay ministry school in the refugee community of Verettes in Haiti. Pastor Lemaître’s vision is to establish these schools in every department (state) throughout the nation.

Pastor Lemaître is passionate about equipping Haitians with this same life-changing spirit of faith. Since graduating in 2015 he’s networked with multiple pastors in the Antibonite region who’ve sent hundreds of their key workers to his lay Bible school. Many of Lemaître’s students have gone on to enroll at RHEMA Haiti to receive more in-depth ministerial training.

When the Church in Jerusalem was dispersed by violent persecution, the Gospel spread exponentially (Acts 11:19). When violence drove citizens from Pastor Lemaître’s city of Liancourt, he chose expansion over defeat. His vision is now to plant a school in every department (state) in Haiti. He says, “With all of the RHEMA Haiti graduates, we have enough human resources. For the moment we’re praying and waiting on God.”
